Use the Ground Strike Tendency tracker to record where on the ground your club strikes relative to the ball and within an acceptable boundary window. This tracker is used for any club that you would use to strike the ball on the ground and not for a ball that is placed on a tee.
If you do not have a ball flight monitor, such as a TrackMan, you will use this tracker to record results based on where the divot starts and is useful only when striking on grass -- not a practice mat. The "divot" parameters for the tracker setup are what need to be defined for this case.
If you do have a ball flight monitor that supports the ability to provide you your club head low-point value like TrackMan does, you will use this tracker to record results based on what the low point distance is as reported by the monitor. The "low point" parameters for the tracker setup are what need to be defined for this case.
This tracker has limited configuration capabilities because it currently intended to be used for skill assessments.
Configuration
In order to be able to add and configure trackers for topics, you must be able to create your own practice topics. Creating practice topics is a feature that is only available for Premium subscribers.
This tracker has the following configuration options:
Property | Value | Purpose |
Ball Count |
(optional) |
The number of balls to hit. |
Divot Ahead |
Required Defaults to 2.0 inches |
The upper range -- ahead of the ball -- where the acceptable divot start range can be. |
Low Point Ahead |
Required Defaults to 3.0 inches |
The upper range -- ahead of the ball -- where the acceptable club head low point range can be. |
Divot Behind |
Required Defaults to 2.0 inches |
The lower range -- behind the ball -- where the acceptable divot start range can be. |
Low Point Behind |
Required Defaults to 1.0 inches |
The lower range -- behind of the ball -- where the acceptable club head low point range can be. |
Ball Timer |
Default OFF Number of seconds when ON |
A countdown timer to use for hitting each ball. Entry into the tracker is disabled unless the timer is at zero. |
Usage
The images below show what the Ground Strike Tendency tracker looks like when in use on a session topic with every configurable feature enabled.
The first image shown is with the "Using Launch Monitor" switch enabled. When this is enabled, the length values shown in the buttons represent the "Low Point" value provided by the launch monitor.
The information blocks in order are:
- HIT IN -- This is the ball timer.
- [LP -- The maximum low point value.
- LP] -- The minimum low point value
- BALLS -- Indicates how many balls total are intended to be hit.
- REMAIN -- Indicates how many balls remain to be hit. This is a button that can be used to increase the number of balls to hit during the session.
The second image shown is with the "Using Launch Monitor" switch disable. When this is disable, the length values shown in the buttons represent the "Divot Start" point on the grass, which you have to measure yourself -- either with a ruler or with evenly spaced tees poked into the ground.
The information blocks in order are:
- HIT IN -- This is the ball timer.
- < DIVOT -- The maximum distance ahead of the ball that the divot can start.
- DIVOT > -- The minimum distance behind the ball that the divot can start.
- BALLS -- Indicates how many balls total are intended to be hit.
- REMAIN -- Indicates how many balls remain to be hit. This is a button that can be used to increase the number of balls to hit during the session.
Next are the buttons where you record how far behind or in front of the acceptable window you achieved. If you were within the acceptable boundary, regardless of how large it is, you record a "within boundaries" with the green button.
The final section shows a running tally of results. For this tracker, it shows:
- STRUCK -- The total number of balls struck.
- THIN -- The percentage of balls that were hit too thin.
- WITHIN -- The percentage of balls that were hit within the boundaries.
- HEAVY -- The percentage of balls that were hit too heavy.
There is also 1 tool button in the top right corner.
- Curled Arrow -- Undo the last entry and give a ball back. Use this to change if the results of the shot in case the wrong button was pushed.
Finally, this tracker has some settings that can be adjusted during usage. You can:
- Change the units to inches, centimeters, or millimeters depending on your personal preferences or, and most importantly, what units your ball launch monitor is reporting to you.
- Indicate that you are using a launch monitor or are manually measuring the results.
